As a sales person one of the most important things to you should be your training, not just the training though, but also how you apply it to your job on a daily basis. Los Angeles has produced a large number of famous musicians and bands and a large majority of them end up singing at least one song about their beloved city. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, southern California’s mascot group and The Doors are just two of the many who sing about Los Angeles. Others include the Counting Crows, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow and Beth Hart, and the list could go on and on. So, what is it about this beautiful southern California city that makes it the subject of so many songs? The Doors first formed in Los Angeles in 1965 and was the result of a chance encounter on Venice beach between Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, two former acquaintances from the UCLA film school. Morrison mentioned that he had been writing songs and Manzarek suggested that they form a band. And while that doesn’t cover all of the details, it can almost be said that the rest was history. By the following year they were playing at the London Fog, which soon turned into a regular gig at the famous Whiskey a Go Go . Jim Morrison was the lead singer and major public force behind the band. He was known for his theatrical performances and unconventional and even controversial lifestyle and onstage personality. There is a debate that I always get into with a friend of mine who is from New York City. The debate is whether San Francisco is a big city or a small town. Of course, the truth is that it’s a mid-sized urban city with a big metropolitan area surrounding it. We both know this. But because I come from someplace smaller than San Francisco and he comes from New York, we both have really different opinions about how big the city feels to each of us.

The interesting thing that we’ve discovered from talking to other people about this is that most visitors who aren’t from either area seem to think that San Francisco and New York feel very similar. Maybe this is because there are some similarities between San Francisco attractions and New York attractions. Maybe it’s because visitors tend to use public transportation in both places. Or perhaps it’s because of the fact that both cities are so urban. I’m not sure.

What I do know for sure is that my friend and I probably aren’t ever going to agree on this. We know the facts. We’ve heard what visitors have to say. And yet when it comes down to it, we both end up relying on our own perception which is colored from our previous experiences. That’s just the way that it is.

From someone that wanted to be young forever, I am sure not doing a good job.  Sure, my attitude is that of a person thirty years my junior, but if you take a look on the outside, you’ll notice one thing:

I look old.

It could be the wrinkles or the grey hair that is on my head, or how I walk just a lot slower than most people, but you can tell I am not a spring chicken any longer.  Even though I do exercise and eat properly, father time is still creeping up on me.

My latest frustrations with my youth-challenged body is that my hearing has started to go.  So, I have been trying out some hearing aids in an attempt to find one that works well for me.  Right now I am using a Unitron hearing aid, and it is nice to hear the world again.

Sometimes I wonder if I squandered my youth working and saving for this time in my life, and now that I am less mobile than ever, I can’t enjoy those things that I had always dreamed of.  Don’t get me wrong, I do what I can, but some things like my dreams of skydiving are never going to be realized because of my health conditions.

I wish that someone would have told me that being old was going to be frustrating.  I hate that what I expect that I can do and what I can do are two different things.  I miss being young.
