You may know your stuff when it comes to pickup truck toolboxes, from tool totes to trailer tongue utility boxes. But if you’re a professional contractor or builder, you should also know how to protect yourself from the ever-inflating prices at the pumps.
The first thing to be aware of is that as gas prices continue to soar, so too do gas-saving scams–in the form of gadgets, devices, and fuel and oil additives that claim to save you money.
These products should be considered with caution, according to the Better Business Bureau, and may also nullify certain warranties on your vehicle. Claims that such products can improve fuel efficiency by 20 percent have been found to be false, according to tests conducted by The Environmental Protection Agency on over 100 products.
If you want to save money on gas using tested and true methods, be sure to first fill up with only the grade and correct octane level for your vehicle. Also keep your speed below 60 miles per hour whenever possible, as speeds exceeding this increase fuel consumption. Try to avoid sudden stops, starts and accelerations. Gradually ease the gas pedal at no more than one-fourth of the way down to allow your engine to work efficiently and save up to five percent on gas.
