As a sales person one of the most important things to you should be your training, not just the training though, but also how you apply it to your job on a daily basis. In fact you should be training all the time. It doesn’t always have to be in the very intense way that a sales training company like Southwestern Company might, but it should be some kind of training every day. If you think about different levels of management in a company, it is usually based on the amount of training each person has had. Although sales people usually all work together and the amount of money made is based on the amount of sales that can be brought in, the difference is the same. The better sales people have usually had a lot more training.
For those people who feel like they can’t afford to do this on a regular basis, it is pretty simple. Use your local library . You don’t have to go out and spend a weekend learning new techniques, instead you can borrow a book, or listen to a CD that has some good sales tips on it. Read for at least thirty minutes every day and make your goal for the day to use the tips you read that day at least once.
Make sure you try each thing at least once that day if not more often. Try to use every new technique three to five times and see how often it works. This will help you determine first if you are doing it right, and second if this technique is effective for your sales. If it isn’t, mess with it, change it up, and make it work better for you. However, no matter how much you learn, keep your ethics. This is the most important thing because you don’t want to try to sell anything to people that you don’t believe in yourself.
Try to attend at least one sales training talk every year, whether it is in depth like Southwestern Company , or if it is shorter, this should be your big event and should be something you look forward to each year as a growing experience.
