About a year ago my Aunt was in a terrible car accident which she did not survive. She was not married, she didn’t have any kids, and she did not have a will. When people die after having not made any plans for their estate like a will everything goes into what is called probate. So that is what happened to her estate. And that is where everything sat for months and months.

When the judge was finally done dividing her stuff up and making sure any outstanding debts were paid, our family was left to split up the rest of her stuff. And that is how my wife and I ended up with her jewelry box. And it was full of hideous jewelry too. I jokingly said to my wife that we had inherited a box of scrap metal.

Well I wasn’t too far off base because it turns out that you can sell scrap gold! And that is exactly what we did. Sure, we didn’t get as much money as what my Aunt probably paid for all of her jewelry. But we were able to sell the gold which helped us a little bit. So if you ever find yourself sitting on jewelry that you would never wear, know that you can recycle it and get some cash!
