Sometimes I think the accessories in a killer outfit cost just as much as, if not more than, the clothes. Luckily you don’t really have to break the bank in order to get great jewelry and other accessories. Here are a few tips.
- Shop at thrift stores and flea markets. Not only are these kinds of places kind of fun to shop at, but you can also find some great stuff. My favorite is vintage costume jewelry, which can be redesigned to look quite funky and modern — see the video below.
- Shop online. You really can get some great deals online. Whether it’s that greater competition drives prices down, or that online stores don’t have as high an overhead, there are really some fantastic deals to be found online. This is especially good for things you don’t want used — for instance, I can’t stand the thought of wearing shoes someone else has worn, so I get all my shoes and boots online.
- Make your own. Obviously the average person won’t be able to make things like shoes, but there are some simple do-it-yourself projects — such as making jewelry — that you might be interested in trying.
You will probably find the best variety of accessories by looking in a variety of different places, so don’t feel that you have to choose just one of these options — try them all!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI love shopping for accessories! Sometimes, it can be so dangerous because all those little purchases add up and can cost me than a simple dress.
But I don’t care. Accessories still make or break an outfit.
Great post!
When I was younger, I used to make my own jewelry. But now, I don’t have as much time to do that.
I usually go to trade fairs and buy my accessories from local designers. Handmade accessories are better, IMO, because it’s more personal and one-of-a-kind.
Sometimes, I don’t have the time to go to stores or fairs to buy handmade jewelry and none of my friends make their own that I can buy.
One alternative I found out about recently is online shopping. Some people who make their own jewelry use social networking websites to promote their stuff. There are bad ones but a lot of really good ones.
They’re really affordable and unique.
I love going to flea markets! The problem is not looking for beautiful handmade jewelry. But stopping myself from buying all of it!
Great post!
