One of the biggest concerns that potential new pet owners have is how the pet is going to get along with the people who live in the home. Parents often worry that the pet will mistreat any young children in the house and need to make sure to get a dog that is great with kids of all ages.

1. The Australian Shepherd. This is a great friendly dog that will always look out for your kids and will play with them appropriately. This is the type of dog that I had growing up and I have no regrets about that.

2. The Bernese Mountain Dog. Parents are often afraid of getting a dog that is this big but this is actually a really gentle and kind animal that will be great with your kids.

3. The Boston Terrier. Parents who insist on getting a small dog should get one that is tough enough to tumble around with the children. The Boston Terrier is a good choice.

How you raise the dog and how you teach your kids to treat it will play a big role in whether or not the dog does well with your family but it sure can help to start things out with the right kind of breed.
