I have a confession; I don’t know what a Power Ranger is. On several occasions, I have asked young boys what a Power Ranger does and I am greeted with a series of kung fu punches and sound effects that still doesn’t quite explain it to a novice like me. I know that these Power Rangers come in different colors and with that comes a certain loyalty to the corresponding ranger.  Short of this information and going to the internet to do a search on the topic, I was void of Power Ranger acumen.

All of that changed when my son wanted to get a power ranger costume this Halloween. Still not understanding what the fuss is about, I quickly learned there would be no substitution. Offering up a cat costume and a superman costume, my son’s reaction was nothing short of horror. He cried, he begged, he called his grandmother and then he offered to clean up the playroom. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, I negotiated with my 5 year old son. I would purchase his beloved red Power Ranger costume if he would sit down and watch the television show with me and explain what a power ranger does.
