When my husband and I found out that we were expecting our first child, the feelings were actually bittersweet. We were overjoyed, of course, but we had not planned on having a baby for another three years. We had contracted to build a house in a new subdivision in our town, but it was going to be two years until we could move into it.
We lived in a small apartment, consisting of one bedroom and a den. The den was packed with all of our belongings and there was no room for a baby at all. The only logical choice for us was to put our belongings in self storage until we could move into our house, so that the baby would have a room in the den.
It was really hard for us, as every time we needed something, we had to go and get it out of the self storage facilities. Moving into our new home was wonderful, as we could have all of our things with us again.
In the end, it was not worth getting all stressed out about it. Things have a way of working out. We can’t imagine our lives without Avery and looking back, she was born at the perfect time for our family. Now that we are all settled into our new home, we are looking forward to the new little brother or sister that Avery will be getting in the spring. The great thing is that baby number two already has a room and we don’t have to pack things away.
