deal-breakerMost people try to solve relationships by seeking to fix the other person. This never works. You need to deal with yourself in order to change what’s going on in a relationship. One important thing that you need to do is to know what your deal breakers are.

Deal breakers are those things that you simply can’t stand. When they come up, you back away from the relationship. Most people assume that everyone has the same deal breakers but that’s not true at all. Each person can accept different things from the next person.

One thing is for sure: be open minded. Just because someone tells you they’ve been to a Florida drug treatment and alcohol rehab center shouldn’t mean they are not going to be a good life partner for you. Open mindedness is key in any interpersonal relationship. These folks are likely to have received counseling regarding interpersonal relationships, have been on a path of recovery, and should be regarded as such. The coping skills they receive in treatment are likely to benefit your relationship, not hinder it.

You should ask yourself what the deal breakers are in your life. Being able to define what they are is how you’ll set boundaries. If something comes up that’s on the list, you can end the relationship. If something comes up and it’s not on the list then you should figure out how to solve it within yourself in order to save the relationship.
