There is a big push right now for everyone to go DIY. This means that a lot of people are feeling encouraged to make products instead of buying them. This can be terrific for some areas of life but it’s not nearly as smart to do in other areas. One area that’s tough for the DIY crowd is technology.

The problem with making your own tech toys is that it’s not cost-effective and it’s not easy to do. People would do it more even though it’s tough except for the fact that it’s so pricey. Buying the pieces that you need to make technology costs just as much (or more) as buying the item that you need already made.

Of course, some people do still go DIY with technology. This is commonly seen among men who want to make their own machinery or equipment. For example, there is one guy that I know of who is trying to make his own gravel screening machine. He already has a gravel screener but he thinks it’s a fun project to try to make one from scratch.

People who want to go DIY with technology should be doing it out of curiosity. They aren’t going to save much money by doing it but they may have a good time. And in the end, they just might have a handmade product that they can really be proud of making.
