I don’t have any illusions that New York City is a place I’d want to live. It’s busy and hectic and crowded and just a little bit too much for me. However, I’d love to be able to spend just one season there. I’d like to get to know the place a little bit as a resident instead of just as a tourist.

Don’t get me wrong; I love visiting New York City as a traveler. I love all of the New York attractions that I’ve seen. I love the Statue of Liberty and the trip over to Ellis Island. I particularly love spending time in Central Park which is beautiful and interesting and filled with things to do.

However, I don’t feel like you can really get to know a city when all you’re doing is visiting famous places. I think that you get to know a city by taking a home there and finding a job there. I think that you need to discover your own coffee shop and your own dry cleaner to really know what living in a city is like. I don’t want to live in New York, not forever anyway, but I’d love to know what it’s like to live in New York anyway!
