My parents will be celebrating their golden anniversary this year, so my siblings and I decided to go all-out and splurge. We are buying them and ourselves a stay at a luxury Fiji resort. The members of my family live spread out across the United States. My parents live in Chicago, I and my husband live in San Francisco, my sister and her kids in Tampa, and my brother and his family in Dallas. This travel to Fiji will combine the wedding anniversary celebration with a family reunion.
Getting a dozen people together for four days at a remote location is not an easy feat, I tell you. But we’ve always been a close family and we always enjoy spending time together. It’s been a while since all of us have been together at one time.
It’s kind of funny to hear my parents sound as excited as little kids before Christmas when I call them up these days. They are so thrilled about the whole trip. My mother and some of her grandkids have never been overseas. I was very impressed when I made the hotel reservations; they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and had a lot of suggestions about activities for the kids as well as the adults.
