As a true hard core fly fisherman I have difficulty in finding places that are truly remote and unspoiled, so I was excited to learn about the fly fishing opportunities in the Canadian Rockies. Since I had never been north of Indiana before, I decided to book on of the Canada vacation packages that featured a stop over right in the heart of the mountains. I selected a Banff vacation package and was surprised to find the number of streams and lakes all within a very short drive of my accommodation.
The staff at the hotel was helpful with finding great fishing just a short hike in from the parking area. I fished almost all day without seeing another person, what a wonderful experience that was. The water was crystal clear and the rainbow trout were really biting, so all in all it was a fisherman’s idea of heaven. While talking to others at the hotel I found out about several other Canadian Rockies vacations and tours designed specifically for those interested in fishing and spending time in the great outdoors. Next year I am going to plan on fishing the Bow River, considered to be one of the premier fly fishing rivers in Canada and I really just can’t wait.
